Who is Behind Project FutureProof?
The Sustainable Housing Foundation developed the FutureProofing concept to help educate Canadians on the benefits of living in homes that are more sustainable. The Sustainable Housing Foundation is a Canadian Not-For-Profit with a mandate of significantly increasing the number of sustainable homes in Canada.
Project FutureProof is being launched to take the FutureProofing concept to Canadians, starting in the Toronto Beaches.
What is a Sustainable Home
A sustainable home has a reduced impact on the environment and is healthier to live in. This is accomplished by significantly reducing a home’s use of energy and water, by using non-toxic materials from renewable sources, and by reducing waste when the home is being built or renovated.
The SHF’s Relationship with Scotiabank
In 2011 the SHF met with senior management at Scotiabank to share the “FutureProofing” concept. In response, Scotiabank asked if their Economists could first scrutinize the numbers. This work resulted in a white paper, titled: Energizing Household Energy Efficiency. The SHF were then introduced to Kaz Flinn (VP Corporate Responsibility) and her team responsible for the EcoLiving program. They were intrigued by the SHF’s vision for creating a community based program to educate Canadians how to FutureProofing their homes. As a result, Scotiabank signed up with generous multi-year sponsorship which underpins the SHF’s work and has acted as the catalyst for Project FutureProof.
